Your school requires the SSAT as part of the boarding school admission process, and you want to do your best on the exam, obviously. While no one tip or trick can guarantee a higher score on the SSAT, we offer these five suggestions that might help you improve your SSAT score.
- Read the Official Guide to the SSAT
The guide is for each level of the SSAT – elementary, middle, and upper – and can be purchased online through SSAT. The elementary level guide is available free and can be downloaded off the SSAT website. These guides offer strategies and tips to help you do your best on the exam.
- Take practice tests
Included in the Official Guide is a series of practice tests. These tests give you an idea of what to expect when the time comes to take the test.
- Take the test more than once
You have the option to take the test multiple times, and for some students, this is the best way to improve your score. This is not a requirement though, and many only take the test once.
- Get a good night’s sleep
The last thing you want to do is stay up late the night before the test cramming. There’s nothing to cram, really, as the SSAT is logic, strategy, and what you already know. So, get to bed early and get a good night’s sleep so you aren’t tired and trying to stay awake. Sleeping through the exam won’t do you a bit of good.
- Eat a healthy breakfast
A growling stomach won’t help you be at your best during the exam either. Make sure you eat a healthy and filling breakfast to nourish your mind and your body so you can get through the test. You can bring along a snack to munch during one of the breaks, too. Stay away from sweets though, which can cause your blood sugar to spike and drop, making you groggy.
